Interactions between nitrogen nutrition and phytohormone levels in Festulolium plants

Abstract: This study aims to reveal and to compare effect of two various systems of nitrogen nutrition, namely injection and sidedress application, on the levels of NO 3 -and phytohormones (cytokinins, abscisic acid (ABA), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA)) in Festulolium plants. Calcium nitrate (CN) or ammonium sulphate (AS) were used as N source in the pot experiment. The yield of Festulolium above and below ground biomass was more substantially enhanced after sidedress application of both AS or CN in comparison with injecti… Show more

“…N is needed to establish leaf canopy growth for light interception and utilization and photosynthesis . Hence, crops depend on N supply for both physiological and morphological response and to manipulate their growth and development (Pavlíková et al 2012). Therefore, all cropping systems need N to complete their life cycle .…”

“…Many studies have claimed that N is an essential element involved in the biosynthesis of chlorophyll [31], nucleic acids [32], amino acids [33], and enzymes [34], which are associated with the accumulation of plant nutrients [35,36]. In addition, N is the key factor for the metabolism of plant secondary chemicals, such as phytohormones (e.g., abscisic acid, ABA; indole-3-acetic acid, IAA; cytokinin, CK) [37,38], polyphenolics, tannins, and flavonoids [39][40][41][42]. For example, total phenolics and total flavonoids increased with an increase in nitrogen fertilizer application [43,44].…”

“…AQP has been found to involve in water transportation by upregulating its gene expression in supplied N source in poplar 16 , rice 17 and barley 7 . N uptake is also associated with phytohormones such as cytokinins, abscisic acid and auxin 18 , or transcription factors osDOF18 in rice 19 .…”
