“…The metal−saccharides or metal−alditol complexes prepared in an alkaline environment are not included in this survey. From the survey, we found four complexes where the deprotonation phenomenon was present (three complexes described in the present paper and a complex reported in our previous work 14 ). A brief description of the structure of the complex reported in our previous paper can also be found in Part 11 of the Supporting Information.…”

“…All lanthanide chlorides, erbium nitrate, erythritol (C 4 H 10 O 4 ), and solvents for the experiments are AR reagents and used as supplied from commercial sources. The crystals were prepared using the method mentioned in our previous papers. A brief description is as follows: A series of aqueous/ethanol solutions containing 3 mmol of erythritol and 3 or 6 mmol of heavy lanthanide salts were heated in a boiling water bath. During the heating process, ethanol was added to the solutions from time to time.…”

“…Therefore, erythritol becomes C 4 H 9 O 4 . 43 Here, the fifth structure (TbE(I)) has been obtained. For such a simple molecule, five topological structures can be observed, which indicate the complexity of the interactions between lanthanide ions and carbohydrates.…”

“…The investigation on the interactions between metal ions and simple sugars can improve the understanding of metal ion interactions with sugar residues of biologically important compounds. This needs to assign the binding hydroxyl or other groups, and also to characterize the metal ion coordination of carbohydrates monitoring the ligand conformation and configuration changes forced by the complexation processes [8].…”
