Interactions between endogenous gamma interferon and tumor necrosis factor in host resistance against primary and secondary Listeria monocytogenes infections

Abstract: Intravenous injection of rat anti-mouse gamma interferon (IFN--y) monoclonal antibody as well as rabbit anti-mouse tumor necrosis factor (TNF) antibody into mice which had received a sublethal infection with Listeria monocytogenes cells resulted in acceleration of listeriosis. Endogenous IFN-'y seemed to be produced early in infection, because suppression of antilisterial resistance was significant when a single injection of anti-IFN--y monoclonal antibody was given on day 0 or day 1 of infection. Production o… Show more

“…In our experiments, the production of endogenous IFN-3, in CNS tissue was observed from Day 5 to Day Suzuki et al, 1988;Leist et al, 1989;Nakane et al, 1989;Smith et al, 1991). There are only a few reports on the kinetics of endogenous IFN-7 production during infections.…”

“…Rat IgG~ (mAb) against the purified preparation of mouse natural IFN-7, which had been prepared from the ascites fluid in Pristane-primed CD-1 nude mice injected with hybridoma R4-6A2 (Nakane et al, 1989), was purified by (NH4)2SO 4 precipitation. The characteristics of the mAb were described previously (Spintalny and Havell, 1984).…”

“…The injected dose of the mAb was enough to a¡ect antilisterial resistance in mice (Fig. 3A) [38]. Therefore, it is assumed that endogenous IFN-Q production might not be enough to contribute to antilisterial resistance in aly/aly mice.…”
