Interaction of Particles and Filter Fabric in Ultrafine Filtration

Abstract: Filter fabrics are frequently used in the separation of particle-laden process streams. Especially for low-concentration and fine particles in the micrometer range, separation on filter fabrics offers considerable advantages over alternative processes. In this process, the inflowing particles are prevented from flowing through the meshes of the fabric. This interaction results in the initial resistance of the filtration not corresponding to the pure water resistance of the filter fabric. Knowledge of this incr… Show more

“…15,16 Furthermore, needle-shaped particles have lower filtration resistance and are easily deposited on the filter surface, making them ideal as a precoating material for improved filter protection. 17 In this study, we precoated inorganic membranes with needle-shaped wollastonite particles to investigate the impact of precoating on their regeneration efficiency. We employed filter-cake-curing technique to solidify the inorganic membrane and its surface filter cake.…”

“…However, PP fabrics are more prone to mechanical abrasion and ageing during filtration than the stainless steel meshes. The main difference between twill and satin fabrics is the offset of the wires (BÄCHLE et al, 2021). Based on The NW-25 model presented removal efficiency higher than 97% for all the evaluated ranges of particle sizes.…”

“…In strainer-type filter elements, the filtration grade may be influenced by the wire characteristics (e.g., material, elasticity, shape, diameter, wire spacing), aperture size and type of weave. In addition, operational characteristics such as water quality, type and shape of contaminants suspended in water (BÄCHLE et al, 2021), flow rate and head loss across the filter may also interfere with the removal efficiency of suspended solid particles and the actual filtration grade.…”
