The present article presents the interaction of anti‐plane shear waves by two collinear cracks in one dimensional (1D) hexagonal piezoelectric quasicrystals (PQCs). With the aid of Fourier transform, the mixed boundary value problem (MBVP) is transformed into three pairs of dual integral equations, which are solved analytically by Hilbert transform. The explicit expressions for dynamic stress intensity factors (DSIFs) of phonon and phason fields, crack opening displacement (COD) and electric displacement (ED) are derived in closed form and some special cases are studied. Numerical values of DSIFs of phonon and phason fields, COD and ED are plotted to show the effect of crack length and electric boundary condition. Moreover, the DSIFs of phonon field and COD are represented graphically for single crack.

Study of collinear cracks in a composite medium subjected to time‐harmonic wave disturbance

The article deals with the collinear Griffith cracks under the time‐harmonic waves, situated in an orthotropic strip sandwiched between two identical half‐planes. The outer cracks are considered to be situated on either sides of the central crack. The mathematical model is solved by applying the Fourier transform and then the unknown functions have been determined using Schmidt method. The approximate analytical expressions of the stress intensity factors (SIFs) have been obtained at the tips of the cracks. The values of the SIFs for the considered composite with Graphite epoxy material as the strip and E‐glass epoxy as the half‐plane are computed numerically for different crack lengths and wave numbers, and the obtained results are displayed graphically. The salient feature of the article is the pictorial presentations of the possibilities of arrest of the central crack due to the presence of outer cracks through finding the stress magnification factor for different particular cases.

The elastodynamic response of two coplanar finite cracks in an infinite orthotropic strip due to longitudinal waves incident normally on the cracks has been investigated in this paper. Fourier transforms are used to reduce the mixed boundary value problem to Cauchy−type singular integral equation, which is solved numerically. The stress intensity factors at the edges of the cracks have been derived and plotted against dimensionless frequency for different geometry parameters. Also normal stress out side the cracks has been calculated numerically and plotted for different parameters and different materials.
