Interaction of colocalized neuropeptides: functional significance in the circadian timing system

Abstract: The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), which appears to act as a circadian clock, contains a subpopulation of local circuit neurons in which vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), peptide histidine isoleucine (PHI), and gastrin releasing peptide (GRP) are colocalized. To determine whether VIP, PHI, and GRP interact within the SCN to produce a signal important for circadian control, the behavioral and cellular effects of coadministration of these neuropeptides were investigated. Coadministration of VIP, PHI, and GRP … Show more

“…CalB (Bryant et al, 2000) and GRP (Aioun et al, 1998) cells receive retinal terminals and presentation of a light pulse during the night induces c-Fos in about 80% of the CalB cells (Silver et al, 1996), 78% of the GRP cells and 60% of the VIP cells (Aioun et al, 1998). It is also known that administration of GRP (McArthur et al, 2000) or coadministration of VIP, peptide histidine isoleucine and GRP (Albers et al, 1991) induce phase-dependent resetting of the SCN that resembles the lightinduced phase response curve. Finally, administration of CalB antisense blocks lightinduced phase shifts (Hamada et al, 2000).…”

Because these N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA), non-NMDA, and yamidata are derived from neuronal populations, they also imply nobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptors was achieved by that the electrical activity generating the pacemaker is synbath application of 100 /AM DL-2-amino-5-phosphonopenchronized.…”
