Interaction between timings and doses of quindorac in rice

Abstract: Summary Quinclorac (3,7‐dichloro‐8‐quinolinecarboxylic acid) is a new herbicide in United States rice production. Field studies were conducted in 1990 and 1991 in Mississippi to determine the influence of application timings and rates on weed control efficacy and rice yield. Control of Echinochloa crus‐galli (L.) Beauv. (barnyard‐grass), Sesbania exaltata (Raf.) Rydb. ex A. W. Hill (hemp sesbania) and Ipomoea wrightii Gray (palmleaf morning glory) were greatest with early post‐emergence application. Efficacy o… Show more

“…As a common problem in paddy field, volunteer rice emerges from the previous crop (Gealy and Gressel, 2005;Warwick et. al., 2005;Street et al, 1995) because of shattered seeds or harvest loss. The severity of this global problem in rice production differs depending mostly on the region, cultivating measures and cultivars planted.…”

“…Quinclorac was first used in rice in late 1992 for the control of propanil-resistant barnyardgrass (Talbert and Burgos 2007). When applied alone or in mixtures, quinclorac provides effective PRE and POST barnyardgrass control (Baltazar and Smith 1994;Street et al 1995;Street and Mueller 1993). Quinclorac may be applied to rice at rates from 0.28 to 0.56 kg ha 21 no later than 40 d before harvest (Anonymous 2010).…”
