Interaction Between an Ethoxylated Alkylphenol Polymer with Formaldehyde and Triblock polyEO–polyPO–polyEO Copolymer in Aqueous Solutions

Abstract: The interaction between an ethoxylated alkylphenol polymer with formaldehyde (EAPPF) and a triblock polyEO-polyPO-polyEO copolymer (TBCP) in aqueous solutions has been investigated in detail by means of surface tension, steady-state fluorescence, dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements and computer simulations. For comparison, the ethoxylated alkylphenol oligomer (EAPO), which is the monomer unit of EAPPF, and another nonionic water-soluble polymer PEG were also selected to get more information about the i… Show more

“…It is well-known that Tyloxapol can be considered as an oligomer of the nonionic surfactant TX-100 with a polymerization degree below 7. 45 In our previous experiment, it has been demonstrated that Tyloxapol has a luminescent property while for TX-100 aqueous solution, no FL has been detected. 46 Thus, it can be concluded that the FL of Tyloxapol is ascribed to the close packing of the seven benzene rings which produces the pp interaction between the aromatic rings of Tyloxapol while such effect is absent in TX-100.…”

“…It can be seen that for the pure solution of 15 mg mL À1 Tyloxapol, they can form micelles. 24,25 After the addition of 100 mg mL À1 a-CD, polygons appear which induce the formation of hydrogels. When the gel is heated, the number of the polygons becomes less and the size of the polygons becomes smaller and a gel-to-sol transition is noticed.…”

“…The ether bonds in the molecules of AEO n are not easy to be damaged by acid and alkali, so they have high stability, good water solubility, well electrolyte resistance, excellent biodegradability, and low foam performance. In addition, they have favourable compatibility with other surfactants [6–8] and good low temperature washing properties which were not affected by water hardness [9,10] . They are widely used in industrial field, such as detergent, cosmetics, petroleum industry, emulsification, lubrication, drug delivery [11–13] …”
