Inter-eye comparison of retinal vascular growth rate and angiographic findings following unilateral bevacizumab treatment

Abstract: Purpose To compare retinal vascularization progression rate, final retinal vascularization, and fluorescein angiography (FA) findings in infants who received intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) treatment in one eye and with spontaneous regression in the other eye. Methods Thirty eyes of 15 infants who underwent IVB in one eye due to asymmetric retinopathy of prematurity, and who had pre-treatment fundus photographs and fluorescein angiography images were included in the study. Horizontal disc diameter (DD), optic d… Show more

“…Therefore, we agreed with previous authors that anti-VEGF treatment was not to cause cessation in vascular progression. 19 While, we speculated that the severity of ROP, especially the location of the initial ridge before the onset of regression, is a more signi cant factor than IVR treatment itself on the extent of retinal vascularization.…”

“…The presence or absence of ROP was considered the dependent variable. The predictive factors included the avascular area of the temporal retina measured in DD (Bayramoglu & Sayin, 2022; Chaves‐Samaniego et al., 2020) (Padhi et al., 2022; Pérez et al., 2018), gestational age (weeks), birthweight of the preterm infant (g), duration of mechanical ventilation (MV; days), duration of CPAP, duration of nasal cannula usage, weight gain (g/day) at 4 weeks, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, sepsis, requirement for transfusions (Uberos et al., 2023; Van Sorge et al., 2014), apnoea, the presence of ductus arteriosus, caesarean delivery, median Apgar score at 1 and 5 min, maternal age, maternal gestational diabetes, maternal hypertension, sex and degree of cerebral haemorrhage.…”

“…All quantitative measurements and subjective plus scoring were performed by one clinician (SEB) with Image J (National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA) software as described in previous studies. [ 13 14 15 ] In our previous study, we reported that this quantitative measurement method is reproducible. [ 14 ] The length of the temporal retinal vascularization (LTRV), the length of the shortest temporal retinal vascularization (LSTRV), and the length of the nasal retinal vascularization (LNRV), and FD were measured on PFIs and FFIs [ Fig.…”
