Inter-domain Proxy Mobile IPv6 based Vehicular Network

Abstract: Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) was standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) NetLMM WG as a Network-based Mobility management protocol. This protocol allows the Mobile Node (MN) to maintain service connectivity while moving within the PMIPv6 domain. PMIPv6 mobility management is different from the Host-based Mobility management protocols; where the mobility signaling management is controlled by the serving network on behalf of the MN. PMIPv6 introduced new network entities to handle the signaling … Show more

“…In the introduction we brought out the concerns related to use of traditional 3G/LTE networks for use in vehicular networks, as it may induce congestion in those networks thus impacting the service for all users including Peer2Peer. Implementation of vehicular networks based on Mobile IP V6 does not address the issue of a plausible signaling storm (Al-Hashimi et al, 2010) But it renders an important capability to the vehicular network, which is mobility.…”

“…This is because of the higher interference level and overhead as well. Thus, there is an imperative required to dynamically adapt the transmission power in this high level of topological change in network environment [13], [14]. Besides that, there is an urgent need to employ a quality of service differentiation on different applications since vehicles are exposed to increased hazard of accidents and injuries [15].…”

“…We also welcomed other typical VANET topics such as channel characterization, congestion control and resource management, medium access protocols and channel assignments, mobility models, message dissemination for safety-related applications, cooperative vehicular communications, test-beds, case studies, experimental systems and real evaluations. Our purpose was also to include new VANET topics such as Inter-domain Proxy Mobile IPv6 in VANETs [16], Vehicular Cloud Computing [17] and security in Vehicular Clouds [18].…”
