Intensive Biological Process Based on SBR Reactor for Industrial Wastewater Treatment

Abstract: A two-stage aerobic Sequencing Batch Reactor system (SBR) designed and constructed by INCD-ECOINDs specialists was used for treatment of the wastewater discharged from drugs fabrication (conditioning operations), with variable concentrations of organic load: COD = 1200-3300 mg O2/L, BOD5 = 490-1570 mg O2/L. After acclimation period, the 1st stage and 2nd stage SBRs were able to achieve COD and BOD removal, with global efficiencies ranging from 63-97% and 82-99% respectively (HRT = 9 h). The effluent quality i… Show more

“…The biological treatment stage of this plant is facilitated using two distinct basins: one for the development of nitrification and the other for the denitrification processes. The wastewater from the locality is collected through a network of canals with a total length of over 150 km [11,19]. Figure 6 shows the change in biochemical oxygen consumption (BOD5) of the treatment plant of city B over 24 h following a 5 day period in the biological stage.…”

“…Biological wastewater treatment is one of the most efficient solutions for increased loads reduction and the varying compounds and charges in water requires continuous research on improved processes (Nicolau et al, 2008;Tricolici et al, 2014). High strength organic industrial wastewater require pre-treatment prior to their discharge in sewer systems due to the stringent legislation requirement and the potential stress on the downstream wastewater treatment processes.…”
