Intelligent Photovoltaic Maximum Power Point Tracking Controller for Energy Enhancement in Renewable Energy System

Abstract: Photovoltaic (PV) system is one of the promising renewable energy technologies. Although the energy conversion efficiency of the system is still low, but it has the advantage that the operating cost is free, very low maintenance and pollution-free. Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is a significant part of PV systems. This paper presents a novel intelligent MPPT controller for PV systems. For the MPPT algorithm, an optimized fuzzy logic controller (FLC) using the Hopfield neural network is proposed. It utili… Show more

“…The output power of the PV array correlates to the outlet voltage of the PV array; the maximum output power of the PV array can be tracked through changing its outlet voltage. A number of MPPT algorithms are available in literature (e.g., [9]). The detailed system is shown in Figure 11.…”

“…The electrical demand was dominated by fossil fuel generation supply that induces high cost and increased carbon dioxide emissions [3]. Renewable and sustainable energy technologies are at the forefront of environmental concerns, independence in energy, and solutions for high cost of fossil fuels [4]. Renewable energy offers great potential for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental impacts from electricity production.…”

“…Solar power system or photovoltaic (PV) system is one of the favorable renewable energy sources in Malaysia. Despite the energy generation efficiency of the system relatively lower than other renewable energy systems, it has the convenience that it is almost pollution free, with relatively small in sustainment and the operating cost is almost free [4,5]. Each solar cell in a solar panel module generates only about onehalf of the electricity and scads of individual solar cells are linked in a sealed, weather proof packages knows as Photovoltaic module [6].…”
