Intelligent Electric Power Systems with Active-Adaptive Electric Networks: Challenges for Simulation Tools

Abstract: Abstract. The motivation of the presented research is based on the needs for development of new methods and tools for adequate simulation of intelligent electric power systems with active-adaptive electric networks (IES) including Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) devices. The key requirements for the simulation were formed. The presented analysis of simulation results of IES confirms the need to use a hybrid modelling approach.

“…HRTSim is intended for continuous methodically accurate three phase simulation of quasi-steady state and transient processes in equipment and EPS in whole for all possible operating conditions and any electric disturbance, including overvoltage [6], on an unlimited range and guaranteed instrumental accuracy. The possibility of obtaining complete and reliable information on the full significant spectrum of quasi-steady and transient processes in EPS using the hybrid tool is confirmed by comparing the results of simulation with full-scale data [7,8], as well as a number of successfully performed applied works [9][10][11][12].…”

“…The developed algorithm can be used in the simulation of relay protection [2][3][4][5][6][7][8], including power system simulator [9][10][11][12]. The implementation of the algorithm will allow detailed analysis of the operation of the ADC at each of its stages, while varying its parameters.…”

“…Due to the unity, continuity and high speed of the mentioned processes, the reliability and efficiency of power distribution grids depend on the level and the quality of their automation. Therefore, one of the main trends of the modern EPS development and improvement is their enhanced automatic controllability [1,2]. Since the last automated RFYS components of the EPS are electrical networks, the key solution to the challenging requirement are Flexible Alternative Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) [3].…”
