Intelligent and integrated techniques for coalbed methane (CBM) recovery and reduction of greenhouse gas emission

Abstract: Coalbed methane (CBM) recovery is a crucial approach to realize the exploitation of a clean energy and the reduction of the greenhouse gas emission. In the past 10 years, remarkable achievements on CBM recovery have been obtained in China. However, some key difficulties still exist such as long borehole drilling in complicated geological condition, and poor gas drainage effect due to low permeability. In this study, intelligent and integrated techniques for CBM recovery are introduced. These integrated techniq… Show more

“…1 Gas in coal mines is also a green energy source, showing multiple advantages including efficiency and low-pollutant emitting. [2][3][4] China is rich in gas reserves, ranking second in the world; however, in the process of coal mining, the vast majority of gas cannot be effectively utilized. 5 Moreover, with the constant increase in mining depth, mining conditions become more complex and the hidden dangers during coal mining are significant.…”

“…Coalbed methane (CBM) is an associated gas produced during coal mining, which is a kind of gas energy associated with coal, , but it is also a greenhouse gas (GHG) that causes environmental pollution. , In particular, large quantities of GHG are emitted during coal mining due to geomechanical instability. This will not only lead to the aggravation of the greenhouse effect but also lead to coal mine fires or gas explosions , and other dangerous accidents. , Therefore, how to effectively recover CBM resources and reduce GHG emissions is the focus and hotspot of current research. …”

“…It is deepening at the rate of 10-20 meters every year. The average mining depth in China is close to 700 meters [4][5]. With the continuous increase of mining depth, the stress of coal seams increases, the gas content and gas pressure of coal seams increase, the mining conditions of coal mines deteriorate, serious casualties and property loss accidents occur frequently, which seriously affect the safety of mine production and miners' lives [6].…”
