Integrin alpha 6 is upregulated and drives hepatocellular carcinoma progression through integrin α6β4 complex

Abstract: Integrin α6 (ITGA6) forms integrin receptors with either integrin β1 (ITGB1) or integrin β4 (ITGB4). How it functions to regulate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression is not well‐elucidated. We found that ITGA6 RNA and protein expression levels are significantly elevated in human HCC tissues in comparison with paired adjacent nontumor tissues by RNA sequencing, RT‐qPCR, Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining. Stable knockdown of ITGA6 with different ITGA6 shRNA expression lentivectors significa… Show more

“…The rest of the tissues were cut into small pieces, flash frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored in a liquid nitrogen tank. Tissue RNA extraction and sequencing procedures are provided in the supplementary file and reported previously 46 . Due to limited amount of tissue samples, quality of samples, and various assays performed, the number of samples used for the various assays are different as shown in the figures.…”

“…These biomarkers are then represented through a series of graphs, elucidating patterns such as survival rates correlated with biomarker levels and gene expression distributions. Moreover, the study incorporates a localized dataset ( 27 ), encompassing both Hispanic and general population profiles. This local data is analyzed to pinpoint genes of particular interest, especially those relevant to the Hispanic population, which might have a different prevalence rate or genetic expression pattern of HCC.…”

“…Integrin crosstalk refers to the mechanism by which changes in the expression of one integrin subunit or activation of an integrin heterodimer may interfere with the expression and/or activation of other integrin subunits in the same cell. This phenomenon was first described in K562 erythroleukemia cells in 1994 (53,165,166). Samarzǐja et al reviewed the evidence for integrin crosstalk in a range of cellular systems, with a particular emphasis on cancer, and described the molecular mechanisms of integrin crosstalk, the influence of cell fate determination, and the contribution of crosstalk to therapeutic outcomes (53).…”
