This aim of this article is to develop a conceptual group decision model capable of diagnosing existing barriers to achieving goals in results-based management in the Water Resource Management (WRM) system of the Brazilian state of Alagoas. The model was based on a Soft Operational Research method, incorporating systematic feedback on non-compliance targets and applied in the context of the transfer of funds from the federal government program to the WRM system in Brazilian states. This program involves the problem of multiple uses of water resources, and it is composed of variables in which actions are necessary to achieve the established goals. The model helped public water resource managers from Alagoas to understand problems related to non-compliance with the goals set by the program, directing management to the improvement of deficient processes. Consequently, we have better water management for its multiple uses, with society as the major beneficiary.

PurposeLogistics at work is rapidly changing. The changing trend is especially prominent when considering the active involvement of individuals that perform diverse forms of formal/informal “logistics work” (e.g. crowd logistics and self-collection). Thus, by conducting a synthesised review (n = 55), this study aims to provide a typology of individuals' logistics work.Design/methodology/approachThe total social organisation of labour is used as a guiding framework. A deductive literature analysis is performed based on the identified journal articles.FindingsThe review findings reveal three major contexts where individuals perform logistics work: formal organisation, social community and private household, with a decreased level of formality. Under each context, individuals may be engaged in paid or unpaid activities, creating six forms of logistics work, termed as paid/voluntary professional logistics, incentivised/friendly social logistics and rewarded/free consumer logistics. Furthermore, an actor–sphere–resource–value conceptualisation of individual logistics is proposed, focussing on the chains of actors, work settings, resource input and value outcome.Originality/valueThe results provide a theoretical foundation for further research in individual- or consumer-centrism in logistics. Two research directions and seven research questions are presented for future investigation.

RESUMO O gerenciamento coletivo de resíduos sólidos industriais é uma alternativa que visa à redução de custos e à centralização de atendimento a requisitos legais. Para unir esforços na gestão de tal tipo de resíduo, conglomerados industriais têm se instalado em distritos onde desenvolvem suas atividades e gerenciam seus resíduos de forma coletiva, numa espécie de simbiose que traz benefícios ambientais e econômicos. Este artigo teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão sistemática sobre alguns aglomerados industriais brasileiros e o gerenciamento coletivo de seus resíduos, utilizando como estudo de caso uma central de resíduos industriais localizada no sul do Brasil. Na revisão, foram pesquisados publicações e autores referência mediante duas combinações de expressões-chave: “Avaliação de Ciclo de Vida + Simbiose Industrial” e “Gerenciamento de Resíduos + Indústria do Tabaco”. O primeiro tema apresentou-se mais atual, com maior quantidade de publicações oriundas do continente europeu. O segundo tema foi mais constante, sem grandes variações no número de publicações, destacando-se os Estados Unidos como a origem dos autores referência. As conclusões apontam para a tendência de expansão dos estudos acerca de avaliação do ciclo de vida e a consolidação do conceito de simbiose industrial. Com relação à gestão de resíduos da indústria do tabaco, a abordagem foca nos malefícios do cigarro à saúde e no problema dos resíduos pós-consumo (bitucas).
