Integration of QoS Metrics, Rules and Semantic Uplift for Advanced IPTV Monitoring

Abstract: Increasing and variable traffic demands due to triple play services pose significant Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) resource management challenges for service providers. Managing subscriber expectations via consolidated IPTV quality reporting will play a crucial role in guaranteeing return-on-investment for players in the increasingly competitive IPTV delivery ecosystem. We propose a fault diagnosis and problem isolation solution that addresses the IPTV monitoring challenge and recommends problem-specific… Show more

“…E-Model produces a scalar in a range from 0 to 100 called the Transmission Rating Factor (R), which is computed as described in [12,13]. However, the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) value is more commonly used by researchers [14,15] for assessing VoIP quality and its values are in a range from 1 to 5. Traditionally, the MOS values are obtained by subjective testing.…”

“…Clustering [7] and factor analysis [8] approaches are also utilized using real network datasets to observe the behaviour of network resources within Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). With respect to DSLAM based research, different DSLAM metrics are monitored in [9] to provide high quality IPTV delivery service. Broadband network markers including DSLAM port mismatches are used with fault detection and localization algorithms to predict failures in [10].…”

“…Comprehensive experimentation was undertaken to validate the new functionality. This work builds on our previous experience in the area of intermediate VoIP monitoring [2], advanced QoE metrics for IPTV [4], and assuring high Quality of Experience (QoE) in an IP Television (IPTV) network using an OpenFlow SDN [5], [6].…”
