The reality of modern power grids requires the use of flexibilities from generation, load and storage. These flexibilities allow system operators to modify a transformer loading in a smart way. Therefore, power constraints of transformers can be overcome by using the appropriate flexibility. However, transformers have a physical limit of energy transfer which cannot be overpassed. This energy limit represents the unique transformer's loading profile, ensuring the highest energy transfer under a given ambient temperature profile. The paper explains how the energy limit can be calculated. Typical characteristics of an energy limit are estimated in cold continental climate of Russia and warm temperate climate in France. Maximal, minimal and mean loadings are identified for each month. Loading durations of energy limit are determined for each cooling system. It is found that winding temperatures of transformers, operating at energy limits, remain in the vicinity of design winding temperature. Therefore, transformer operation at energy limit avoids a high temperature stress and simultaneously maximizes the energy transfer. The application of energy limits for power system problems is briefly explained along the paper. Energy limit application can reduce an energy cost, maximize a renewable generation and increase a hosting capacity of distribution network. This project is aimed to design a system which can monitor and control the substation by using a wireless technology called IOT . A IOT module provides the communication interface. By using IOT module we can update data on web server. In our project we are considering substation parameters, voltage and current, frequency, temp. The project will be designed in such a way that an sensor will be interfaced to the controller. Here the inputs for the ADC are the analog values of voltage, current . In this project microcontroller is connected to IOT module through serially. By varying these two pots microcontroller detects voltage and current, frequency, temp fluctuations and sends that particular values to the web server. According to voltage and current fluctuations relays has to be triggered for protecting substation at that time bulb will OFF. A 16x2 LCD is also provided to display the status of the system. This project uses regulated 5V, 500mA power supply. Unregulated 12V DC is used for relay. 7805 three terminal voltage regulator is used for voltage regulation. Bridge type full wave rectifier is used to rectify the ac output of secondary of 230/12V step down transformer.

Transformer as the hub of electrical power system plays a notable role in whole power grid; hence the failure of transformer may cause huge loss and threaten the life and property security of people. The diagnosis and prediction of transformer faults is quite necessary and important. To perfect the diagnosis and prediction of transformer faults, this study developed an optimized support vector machine (SVM) based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) fault diagnosis and established diagnosis and prediction models and performed optimization selection on the parameters of the models. Finally it was verified that PSO based SVM had a high preciseness in diagnosing and predicting transformer faults, suggesting a favourable practicability.
