Integration of monitoring devices in the e-Vital service

Abstract: The continuous treatment of chronic diseases such as heart diseases, pulmonary disease and diabetes, relies on the patient's self-monitoring. The rapid advance in the development of telemedicine systems and monitoring devices during last years gave several solutions in continuous patient telemonitoring. However, in most of the cases, these systems work with only one or a few types of medical devices and, thus, the variety of diseases they can monitor is rather limited. One of the main reasons for this is the f… Show more

“…Despite the indisputable results of the projects mentioned above it can be stated that flexibly combinable and co-operating embedded devices and software components are difficult to implement, especially in the healthcare sector, due to the multitude of specialised, partly proprietary communication protocols and interfaces [11][12] [13]. The use of service-oriented architectures together with broadly accepted, open standards could help to cope with these challenges.…”

“…This ambitious project regroups specialists of smart homes, networks and computing, electronics, and signal processing. The e-Vital project [24] (cost-effective health services for interactive continuous monitoring of vital signs parameters) is a modular and ambulatory telemedicine platform. Its objective is to increase patient's feeling of safety concerning their health.…”
