Integration and Evaluation of an Immersive Virtual Platform

Abstract: The virtual reality (VR) industry has tried to enhance VR immersion, a perception of being physically present in a non-physical environment. Sound, simulators, and surrounding environments can be synergistically augmented together to enhance immersion in VR. In this paper, we first integrate an immersive virtual platform that builds on a moving vehicle simulator in an immersive virtual environment. The simulator is integrated to have efficient localization with inexpensive sensors and to produce the loosely sy… Show more

“…Recommendations for optimizing QoE include applying loosely synchronous motion for increased immersion across various environments but limiting its use for motion sickness reduction to VR with Head-Mounted Display (HMD) settings. [13] work involves exploring different game contents and investigating alternative localization methods, such as ultra-wideband positioning sensors or visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM).…”

As an illustrative motivating XR scenario for this article, consider an on-location agent (e.g., human or robot, for brevity referred to as client) that moves in a local physical environment, which is captured by camera sensors.…”
