Integrating UHF RFID Antennas into Surgical Instruments

Abstract: This paper details a technique where a nonresonant metallic surgical instrument -in this case a scalpel handle -can be modified to effectively incorporate UHF RFID functionality, where the instrument itself serves as the antenna.
