O desenvolvimento, planejamento e uso do solo têm como objetivo a redução de viagens motorizadas e influenciar o comportamento dos viajantes por meio de modos mais sustentáveis, como bicicletas e deslocamentos a pé (BANISTER, 2008(BANISTER, , 2011a(BANISTER, , 2011b; WEE, HANDY, 2016) e a integração destes com sistemas de transportes, necessária (BUEHLER; PUCHER, 2011;TIGHT et al, 2011;BABALIK-SUTCLIFFE, 2013;HICKMAN et al, 2013;NASRI;ZHANG, 2014;HRELJA, 2015).
