Integrating terminologies into standard SQL: a new approach for research on routine data

Abstract: Background Most electronic medical records still contain large amounts of free-text data. Semantic evaluation of such data requires the data to be encoded with sufficient classifications or transformed into a knowledge-based database. Methods We present an approach that allows databases accessible via SQL (Structured Query Language) to be searched directly through semantic queries without the need for further transformations. Therefore, we developed I) an extension to S… Show more

“…The MVC design pattern stipulates the responsibilities of the components and reduces the coupling between the components [ 16 ]. The use of the MyBatis framework brings complete data encapsulation and optimizes the data processing process [ 17 ]. The Spring MVC framework includes a perfect client request processing system, which is composed of components such as HandlerMapping and ViewReSolver.…”

“…For large data sets, SQL Server can be used. It works well with relational data, especially if individual records have many attributes associated with them . SQL data sets can be transformed into the XML data format which is amenable to many informatic solutions and coding languages.…”

“…[6,7,13] [10] While due to lack of appropriate resources, commonly to begin with refinement or de novo generation of a terminology have been necessary, we could recently demonstrate that analysis of free-text-containing medical records is possible with standard tools and terminologies. [19]…”
