Integrating siphonophores into marine food‐web ecology

Abstract: Recent work challenges the paradigm that gelatinous animals are trophic dead ends and demonstrates their central roles as predators and prey in marine food webs. However, that research is primarily focused on scyphozoan "true jellies." We review the ecological niches of siphonophores, gelatinous cnidarians that are understudied but abundant across the water column.
