ARM processors have taken over the mobile industry from a long time now. Future of data centers and the IT industry is estimated to make use of ARM Processors. Projects like Openstack on ARM are enabling use of ARM in data centers . Single board computers (SBCs) based on ARM processors have become the norm these days. Reason for their popularity lies in their cost effective and power efficient nature. There are hundreds of them available in the market having different sizes, compute power and prices. The reason for their popularity is largely due to the rise of new technology called IoT (Internet of Things) but there is another perspective where they can become handy. Low Price and Power Usage of single board computers makes them top candidate to be used for teaching many courses with hands-on experience in developing countries like Pakistan. Many boards support full Linux distributions and can be used as general-purpose computers while many of them are open hardware based. In this paper, we have reviewed the famous options available and tried to figure out which of them are better for teaching what kind of courses

Since 2001, the departments of Electrical and Electronics and Information and Communication Electronics Engineering of Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) have jointly given a lecture on autonomous electronic information devices for undergraduate students. According to the on-line questionnaire, 80% of students in 2010-2012 replied that the lecture was useful for their future career. The task given to students was to design and realise an autonomous electronic information devices (so-called 'the IoT-gadgets') by themselves, and conduct a live demonstration in front of their colleagues. The device must have an 'input', 'output', and some 'information processing'. Being aware of the speed of technology evolution as well as the short hours of the lecture, the professor tried not to give direct answers to students' questions on how-to instantly build and program an information device. Instead, the students were told to beware of their 'methods'. This refers to the deductive thinking introduced by René Descartes, and in the lecture's context how students should behave in order to realise the device. In this study, the backgrounds of various associated topics are discussed, such as the UTokyo's educational system, the world's rapid prototyping movement, open hardware, course design, students' reactions, and future directions.

Electric pole could tilt in the event of heavy storms, soil erosion and object crashing onto poles, causing serious damages if they are not fixed before condition worsen. Therefore, to monitor the health of the electric pole, a system to monitor its tilting angle is needed. In this paper, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, an integration of Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMs) accelerometer with BeagleBone Black microcomputer will be used to develop an electric pole tile angle monitoring system. The accuracy of measuring tilt angle using single axis accelerometer versus triple axis accelerometer and the effect of rolling on tilt angle reading using single axis accelerometer versus triple axis accelerometer will be presented. Three-axis accelerometer achieves greater accuracy as the percentage error of tilting and rolling for the three-axis accelerometer are better than the single-axis accelerometer.
