This paper reports an ongoing study regarding the development of Assistive Courseware (AC) which specifically designed catering to the needs of low vision learners in learning activities.Previous literatures state that most of the available digital interactive learning content means too little to them, particularly in terms of content presentation. Therefore, this study solves the problem by developing an assistive courseware (AC), which is named as AC for Low Vision Learners (AC4LV). The AC was developed by utilizing Multiple Intelligence (MI) theory as guidance. In addition, three basic steps, which are pre-production, production, and post-production have been utilized in developing the AC. As a result, an AC4LV based on MI theory was successfully produced. Future works of this study is to test the experience of using AC4LV among the low vision learners in terms of it usefulness.

This study describes an ongoing study related to the development of usability strategies, which specific to instructional interface application for inclusive education systems. Reviews from literatures indicate that usability strategies that are incorporated in courseware which is specifically designed to motivating inclusive learners in elearning environment is highly scarce. It was found that most of the existing content and navigation accessibility applications including courseware focus on the needs of certain target with most of this courseware offering too little to inclusive learners in terms of information accessibility, navigation ability and motivation concepts. In addition, the use of structure, layout and navigation to improve the coursewares' instructional interface as part of usability strategies was also problematic for them. Thus, this study aims at creating an alternative instructional interface as part of usability strategies particularly on courseware design for inclusive education systems. The study used comparative analysis technique to determine the usability strategies of instructional interface. Prior to proposed usability strategies a specific design model has to be proposed as guidance for the developer to refer to. So, this study found was to determine the usability strategies for instructional interface of C4IES by utilizing stages of activities. Future works is to validate the proposed strategies through expert review and prototyping method.

User experience testing on interactive assistive courseware for young low vision learners: Observation approach

This research reports an ongoing project related to user experience testing of interactive assistive courseware which specifically designed to cater the needs of young low vision learners. It is called as AC4LV which has been developed by utilizing User Centered Design (UCD) approach. To ensure the usefulness of AC4LV, it has to be tested to the targeted users. Initial round of user experience testing has been carried out and reported in the previous studies. From the testing, rich and valuable data were gathered through the reactions and behaviours of low vision learners while using the AC4LV. Also, their opinions regarding the AC4LV which gathered through their thought in the interview session has been discussed previously. Thus, to overcome the weaknesses and intrinsic biasness that came from the previous testing and to produce a more comprehensive interpretation, the second round of observation approach is needed. Think aloud protocol has been utilized throughout the testing. The result explains the usefulness of AC4LV in terms of information accessibility, navigationability, and pleasurabilty.
