Global climate change is defined as a process that affects all living things and ecosystems globally and is claimed as the most critical problem of the current century. Turkey, which is shown as one of the most affected countries by this process, is among the “countries at risk.” It is stated that the temperature will increase throughout the country until 2100, and this increase may reach 6 ºC. In order to determine the possible effects of global climate change, it is necessary to predict how the climate structure and basic parameters may change. From this point of view, this study is aimed to determine the change of temperature and precipitation, climate types (according to De Martonne, Lang, and Emberger climate classification) which are the most critical climate parameters until 2050 and 2070 in Düzce, one of the important cities of our country. The current situation and possible changes in 2050 and 2070 have been compared using RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenarios. As a result of the study, the temperature, precipitation, and related climate types would change significantly throughout the province of Düzce, and this change will show itself as a significant temperature increase and change in precipitation regime. In addition, a shift in climate types towards continental climate types is predicted until 2070. In order to avoid the destructive effects of global climate change, it is recommended to take measures on a sectoral basis.

Coastal zones are located at the intersection of the two major ecosystems of ocean and land. Three-fifths of the global population lives in coastal zones, which provide ecological services and are the most economically developed areas. However, the coastal ecosystem is seriously threatened because of long-term human disturbances. In this study, the Ningde coastal zone was selected as the study area. The Pressure-State-Response model and Analytic Hierarchy Process were used to evaluate the ecosystem of the Ningde coastal zone in 2000, 2009, and 2014. The Markov model was used to predict the status of the Ningde coastal zone ecosystem in 2024. Finally, several problems, corresponding countermeasures, and suggestions in the management of the Ningde coastal ecosystem were proposed. The ecosystem status in the coastal zone of Ningde improved continuously from 2000 to 2009. Although the status of the ecosystem declined slightly from 2009 to 2014, it currently remains fair. The status of the Ningde coastal ecosystem will be worse in 2024 than that in 2014, indicating that an increase in the area of forest and grassland and a decrease in the area of dry land and paddy field is not effective. The main problems affecting the coastal ecosystem of Ningde were that the area of aquaculture was blindly expanded and the role of water bodies in protecting the environment was ignored. The forest ecosystem in the coastal zone of Ningde was vulnerable to external disturbance owing to the single species of forest trees and the lack of a large area of land suitable for forests.

Among the environmental pollution elements, one of the most important problems of the world today, air pollution and heavy metal pollution that have gradually increased after the industrial activities, are of significant importance. Heavy metals are not easily dissolved in nature. Moreover, they tend to bioaccumulate in living organisms, and some of them have a toxic or carcinogenic effect even at low concentrations. For this reason, it is crucial to monitor the heavy metal concentration in the air and monitor the changes. One of the efficient methods in observing the change of heavy metal concentrations in the air is the use of annual rings of trees as a biomonitor. The present study aimed to determine the annual change of Ni and Co concentrations, which are among the heavy metals related to traffic volume at most, in annual rings of Cedrus atlantica harvested in Kastamonu in late 2019. Within the scope of this study, the heavy metal concentrations in the inner and outer bark were compared to the heavy metal concentration in wood and the change of concentration in terms of direction was also analyzed. As a result of the present study, the highest concentrations in both heavy metals were found in the outer bark, whereas the transmission of metals within the wood was limited. It was found that Ni concentration significantly changed directionally in woods, and this change was related to the traffic volume. Thus, it was concluded that the annual rings of Cedrus atlantica were very suitable biomonitors to monitor Ni concentration change.
