Integrating fuzzy case-based reasoning, parametric and feature-based cost estimation methods for machining process

Abstract: Purpose This paper aims to propose an intelligent system that serves as a cost estimator when new part orders are received from customers. Design/methodology/approach The methodologies applied in this study were case-based reasoning (CBR), analytic hierarchy process, rule-based reasoning and fuzzy set theory for case retrieval. The retrieved cases were revised using parametric and feature-based cost estimation techniques. Cases were represented using an object-oriented (OO) approach to characterize them in n… Show more

“…These techniques are useful where the cost of constituent variables could be easily identified. A wide range of parametric models is presented in the literature [29]. Like analogous cost estimation techniques, they require historical and past data.…”

“…The actions that can be followed in this retrieve process to bring back the same or comparable cases with fresh cases that have just been encountered are problem identification, start matching, and selection [9]. In this reuse procedure, the system will search the database for problems by identifying new problems, and then it will reuse knowledge from previous problems that have comparable characteristics to solve new problems.…”
