Integrated visible light communication and positioning CDMA system employing modified ZCZ and Walsh code

Abstract: In this paper, an integrated visible light communication and positioning (VLCP) code division multiple access (CDMA) system is proposed for recovering original user data and obtaining positioning information simultaneously. A generalized modification method for balanced bipolar code set is presented, which can be applied to VLCP-CDMA system with intensity modulation. Both modified bipolar code sets, zero correlation zone (ZCZ) code set and Walsh code set, are employed and evaluated in VLCP-CDMA systems. When c… Show more

“…With FDM, VLC and VLP signals occupy distinct frequency subcarriers for simultaneous transmission and positioning [9][10][11][12][13]. CDM assigns unique spreading codes to VLC and VLP signals, which are then differentiated through despreading codes [8,14,15]. However, commercial LEDs typically offer a narrow bandwidth, often just a few megahertz.…”

“…Additionally, they introduced a CDMA scheme enabling multiple access with variable data rates [16]. In [17], the authors proposed an integrated visible light communication and posi- tioning CDMA system. This system achieved a transmission rate of 1 Mbps and an average positioning error of 1.50 cm.…”

“…This reduces the time and spectral utilization. As for the CDM-based VLCP system, a set of spreading codes is divided and assigned to LEDs to distinguish different VLCP signals, then the correlation values between the spreading codes and the VLCP signals are used to recover the user data for VLC and calculate receiver signal strength (RSS) for VLP [19,20]. However, it is hard for the CDM-based solution to support a large number of users because each LED can only support the VLC function for one user, which means the number of LEDs limits the user number.…”
