Integrated satellite-HAP systems

Abstract: Thus far, high-altitude platform (HAP)-based systems have been mainly conceived as an alternative to satellites for complementing the terrestrial network. This article aims to show that HAP should no longer be seen as a competitor technology by investors of satellites, but as a key element for an efficient hybrid terrestrial-satellite communication system. Two integrated HAP-satellite scenarios are presented, in which the HAP is used to overcome some of the shortcomings of satellite-based communications. Moreo… Show more

“…High Altitude Platforms (HAP) [28] use a quasi-stationary aerial platform equipped with wireless transceivers offering broadband wireless access with data rates of 120 Mbps or up to 10 Gbps in some configurations. This type of wireless technology offers good coverage with better LOS connections.…”

“…There are 16068 patents about spread spectrum in National Patent Office of America, further involving PN-code capture is 590. These patents contain design, synchronization, sending, receiving and positioning of PN-code, etc [2]- [4] . In the domestic, Tsinghua university, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Atronautics and Aerospace Science and Technology Group etc have made a series of innovative research results In the satellite signal capturing and tracking algorithm [5] .…”
