Integrated Project in Separation Process Class as Innovative Tool to Improve Students’ Online Learning Experience

Abstract: Implementation of integrated project in chemical engineering courses has shown positive impact on students’ understanding, teamwork, critical thinking, and communication. In this case, an integrated project covering three different courses in chemical engineering, namely Reaction engineering, Process modelling and simulation, and Separation process was formulated on palm-oil based biodiesel production and introduced to students. The response from questionnaire was recorded and analyzed by using Excel software.… Show more

“…Researchers conducting studies have emphasized the need for critical thinking to be included as a thinking dimension in education and learning. Typically, students use a number of problem -solving skills to explore knowledge about learning content (Dolapcioglu & Doğanay, 2022;Hidayatulloh, Suyono, & Azizah, 2020;Sambudi, Jusoh, Sapiaa, & Ahmad, 2023). Therefore, critical thinking ability is crucial as a cognitive bridge to understanding and solving problems.…”

“…Other factors that cause low science learning outcomes include students not being actively involved in learning and the lack of varied and innovative learning used (Dewi et al, 2020;Handayani, 2020;Prastiti et al, 2023;Sambudi et al, 2023). Meanwhile, according to Meilani and Aiman (2020), factors that affect the low science learning outcomes include conventional learning, limited learning resources, learning that only focuses on cognitive skills because learning is teacher-centered, and students who are not accustomed to using their abilities according to the times.…”
