Integrated power saving for relay node and user equipment in LTE‐A

Abstract: By introduction of relay nodes, LTE-Advanced can provide enhanced coverage and capacity at cell edges and hot-spot areas. The authors have been researching the issue of power saving in mobile communications technology such as WiMax and Long Term Evolution (LTE) for some years. Based on the previous idea of load-based power saving, two strategies each with associated schemes to integrated relay nodes and user equipment in power saving are proposed in the paper. Simulation study shows the benefit of the proposed… Show more

“…People's connections with their society, culture and even one another are about to change due to wireless communications' ease availability and newer and faster mobile devices. The fourth generation (4G) of wireless standards has been specified by the In-ternational Telecommunications Union to meet the peak speed requirement of 1 Gbps for stationary connections and 100 Mbps for a mobile connection [1]. The 4G service is designed to offer a faster and secured all-IP, roaming mobile broadband solution.…”

“…However, with these enhancements in technologies, growth in making the User Equipment (UE) energy efficient remained slow. Thus, it is needed to provide improvement in energy efficiency of LTE-A networks enabled UE [19]. Several methods and schemes such as Discontinuous Reception (DRX) in LTE/LTE-A and idle/sleep mode in WiMAX are used to reduce the power consumption [13].…”
