This study examined how the regional manifestations of climate change effects and students' involvement in various climate-related clubs and activities influenced their knowledge and awareness of climate change. Key knowledge gaps and their implications for climate action were also examined. A cross-sectional survey was adopted for the study whilst a snowball sampling technique was used to select the respondents. A total of 300 students from 26 African countries participated in the survey. Descriptive statistics, relative importance index (RII) method and the chi-square test of independence were used to analyze the data. Results showed that regional manifestations of climate change effects and students' involvement in climate change-related workshops and campaigns significantly influenced their knowledge levels whilst their membership of climate-related student clubs had no significant influence. Key knowledge gaps with regards to how factors such as meat consumption and waste generation could lead to climate change were also identified. Students were also less knowledgeable about how climate change affects key issues such as conflicts, gender inequalities and job insecurity. Intensification of climate change education beyond the most common causes and effects is highly recommended among the youth. Various environment-related student clubs are also encouraged to tailor their activities in this direction.

Abstract:In modern urban life in developing countries like India, many issues are building up due to the irresponsible and careless behavior of the population and governance alike. The wheel of time cannot be turned back to eliminate the sources of these societal problems arising out of modernization. However, there are simple and easy steps which an individual or a residential or commercial society may take to alleviate these problems. It calls for a change in the mindset and slightly modified perspective to implement these changes. The objective here is to inculcate and adopt sustainable and environment friendly practices and habits by modern urban population so that the cities would become a better habitat for the human race in future. There are financial commitments to be made and here, local governance may offer tax rebates to offset the expenses incurred by individual / societies in adopting the eco-friendly lifestyles. Few concepts which may pave the way towards this goal have been discussed with reference to the Indian cities. This would call for educations and awareness, participation of individual and communities, the monitoring role by the governance with reward and penalty system, as the case may be. The concepts discussed are based on the life in Indian cities but could be applicable, in part or whole, for the cities in other developing countries of the world. The models presented here can be considered while planning the infrastructure and stipulations for new / developing cities by the government.

Abstract: Burning plastic waste using an incinerator will produce emissions of gas that will damage the environment if released casually. This research was conducted to analyze the effect of air flow, water discharge and thickness of the packing media on the efficiency of the wet scrubber in removing emissions from the combustion of plastic waste. There are 3 variable variations, air flow velocity, water flow velocity, and thickness of media with thickness of 5 cm, 10 cm and 15 cm. The parameters to be investigated are the SO2, NO and CO content and temperature at the wet scrubber. The results obtained from the experiments carried out were SO2 efficiency values of 46.80%, CO of 26.70% and NO of 23.68%. SO₂ values tend to have high efficiency values because SO₂ solubility in water is high. In accordance with the effect test with the help of IBM SPSS, water flow and venturi flow greatly influence the removal of NO, CO and SO₂ gases. However, the thickness of the media only affects the removal of CO and SO₂ gases.
