The ongoing energy transition from conventional to renewable energy sources increases the demand for qualified personnel in the field of alternative power generation. Especially wind energy plays an increasingly important role in today's power industry as more electricity is generated by wind on a global scale. The complex and multidisciplinary nature of wind energy conversion systems (WECS) makes the understanding of this topic a challenging task. In this paper current elearning trends, like virtual and remote experiments in electrical engineering education are discussed. A novel web-based learning module on wind energy conversion and control that utilizes easy-to-use interactive virtual experiments is introduced. The last two chapters of this module deal with the operating principles of a three-phase voltage source converter (VSC) and with the control of a DFIG-based wind energy conversion system. For both chapters a virtual experiment has been developed that helps the learner to get a deeper understanding of the presented theory. In both cases the educational approach and the learning objectives are explained, as well as the graphical user interface of the experiment, its operation and interaction possibilities.

In this study, the establishment of a control platform for DC motor has been carried out with a personal digital assistant (PDA) using GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). The man-machine interface is achieved with embedded Visual Studio 2005 which includes the Pocket PC 2003, Smartphone 2003 and Windows CE 5.0 software applications. The protocol of application server was created by using basic principles of GPRS control, the client software was performed and the real time torque and speed control of DC motor was realized on a monitor system written on C# language and prepared without using any additional equipment. It was observed that the GPRS protocol used in system control provided many advantages in both time and cost.

One of the difficulties in learning Chinese characters is distinguishing similar characters. This can cause misunderstanding and miscommunication in daily life. Thus, it is important for students learning the Chinese language to be able to distinguish similar characters and understand their proper usage. In this paper, the authors propose a game style framework to train students to distinguish similar characters. A major component in this framework is the search for similar Chinese characters in the system. From the authors' prior work, they find the similar characters by the radical information and stroke correspondence determination. This paper improves the stroke correspondence determination by using the attributed relational graph (ARG) matching algorithm that considers both the stroke and spatial relationship during matching. The experimental results show that the new proposed method is more accurate in finding similar Chinese characters. Additionally, the authors have implemented online educational games to train students to distinguish similar Chinese characters and made use of the improved matching method for creating the game content automatically.
