Integrated Geophysical, Remote Sensing and GIS Studies for Groundwater Assessment, Abu Zenima Area, West Sinai, Egypt

Abstract: The integration between advanced techniques for groundwater exploration is necessary to protect and to manage the vital resources. Enhanced Thematic Mapper Landsat (ETM+) images, a geographic information system (GIS), hydrological modeling and direct current (DC) resistivity geoelectrical techniques were used in integrated manner to identify the groundwater potentialities in the study area. The study area is approximately 1195 km 2 , located at the western portion of south Sinai. From the results of the eight … Show more

“…According to the results, the region was divided into three classes; not suitable, moderately suitable and highly suitable with respect to the input factors using the Fuzzy overly method. Khalil et al [48] used Landsat (ETM+) images, GIS, hydrological modeling and geoelectrical resistivity techniques, in an integrated manner, to identify the groundwater potentialities in West Sinai, Egypt. The results revealed the successful integration amongst the geoelectrical parameters, hydrological data, and GIS in the site selection process to identify the optimum locations for dam construction.…”

“…The higher the percentage is the more influence a particular input will have in the suitability model. The weighted Suitability analysis was developed using GIS techniques depending on a number of thematic layers [15]. Accordingly, the input layers may not be same important.…”

“…The minerals excavated are iron, copper, gold, silver, molybdenum, zinc, coal, uranium, sulfide, tin, chromite, potash, etc. From the point of view of geophysicists, geophysical methods are playing an important role in mineral investigation, groundwater investigation and hydrocarbon exploration [1][2][3]. Geophysical methods are grouped into two different kinds which are passive and active methods.…”
