Finline is a planar transmission line suspended in the
E
plane of a metal waveguide. The electromagnetic field is guided by a slot in the finline metallization. This contribution gives an overview of the possibilities of realizing passive as well as active components based on this type of transmission line. The article begins with a discussion of filters, directional couplers, and antennas and nonreciprocal components are mentioned later. It continues with a discussion of diode‐based components such as detectors, p‐i‐n diode attenuators or switches, mixers, and phase shifters. After a short remark on oscillators and amplifiers, a number of integrated components and front ends are presented.
