Due to the uncertainty and fluctuation of distributed generation (DG) and load, the operation of active distribution network (ADN) is affected by multi-dimension factors which are described by massive operation scenarios. Efficient and accurate screening of severely restricted scenarios (SRSs) has become a new challenge in ADN planning. In this paper, a novel bi-level coordinated planning model which combines the short-time-scale operation problem with the long-time-scale planning problem is proposed. At the upper level, the demand response (DR) resource, an effective non-component planning resource characterized by low capacity price, high energy price, and short contract term, is co-optimized with the configuration of lines and energy storage systems (ESSs) to achieve the economic trade-off between the investment cost and the operation cost under SRSs. At the lower level, with the planning scheme obtained from the upper level, massive operation problems are optimized to minimize the daily operation cost; and the SRSs are provided to the upper level through a shadow-price-based scenario screening method, which simulates the planning information (i.e., the restricted degrees of operation scenarios) feedback process from ADN operators to ADN planners. Case studies on a 62-node distribution system in Jianshan New District, Zhejiang Province, China, illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed bi-level coordinated planning model considering DR resources and SRSs. Nowadays, the most notable uncertainty for an electricity utility lies in the electrical demand of end-users. Demand response (DR) has acquired considerable attention due to uncertain generation outputs from intermittent renewable energy sources and advancements of smart grid technologies. The percentage of the air-conditioner (AC) load over the total load demand in a building is usually very high. Therefore, controlling the power demand of ACs is one of significant measures for implementing DR. In this paper, the increasing development of ACs, and their impacts on power demand are firstly introduced, with an overview of possible DR programs. Then, a comprehensive review and discussion on control techniques and DR programs for ACs to manage electricity utilization in residential and commercial energy sectors are carried out. Next, comparative analysis among various programs and projects utilized in different countries for optimizing electricity consumption by ACs is presented. Finally, the conclusions along with future recommendations and challenges for optimal employment of ACs are presented in the perspective of power systems.

Under the background of carbon neutrality and large-scale penetration of renewable energy, the integrated local energy system (ILES) has been extensively recognized as an effective way to reduce carbon emissions and improve renewable energy consumption level due to its high energy utilization and multiple energy complementarity. Hence, an optimal low-carbon scheduling model of ILES considering oxygen-enriched combustion plant (OECP) and generalized energy storages (GESs) is proposed in this paper to reduce the carbon emissions, improve the renewable energy consumption level and reduce the operating costs of ILES. More specifically, the cooperation mechanism between OECP and power to gas (P2G) is established to maintain a high carbon capture level during peak load periods; the GESs under the background of ILES is modelled, which can make full use of the multiple energy complementarity to improve the renewable energy consumption level of ILES. Case studies are performed on an IES that consists of an IEEE 33-bus distribution network, a 44-node district heating network and a 20-node natural gas network to verify the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed model.
