Integrated analysis of multiomic data reveals the role of the antioxidant network in the quality of sea buckthorn berry

Abstract: Berries of sea buckthorn, known as the "king of vitamin C," are abundant in antioxidants, have attractive colors, and are an excellent material with which to study the relationships between berry color, antioxidants, and berry quality. No study has yet determined the molecular basis of the relationship between sea buckhorn berries and their color and antioxidant levels. By using RNA-seq, LC-MS/MS, and LC/GC-MS technology and selecting red (darkest colored) and yellow (lightest colored) sea buckthorn berries at… Show more

“…The expression levels of gene HrMYB157 peaked at first stage and gene HrMYB104 peaked at second stage, subsequently, their expression levels gradually decreased with fruit development. This trend was in line with the change of flavonoids content during sea buckthorn fruit development [52]. In addition, gene HrMYB11, HrMYB14, HrMYB19, HrMYB107 and HrMYB58 had higher expression levels at the first stage and lower at the second or third stage.…”

“…L-Galactose pathway is involved in the high accumulation of ascorbic acid in seabuckthorn Richness in AsA was another essential feature of seabuckthorn fruit (He et al, 2017), and the AsA content in pulp decreased sharply following the maturation of seabuckthorn fruit (Figure 5d). Comparative genomics and transcriptome analysis were used to explore the molecular basis underlying its biosynthesis (Figures 5e,g and S16).…”

“…Seabuckthorn fruits were collected at 46, 63, and 76 days postanthesis. Library construction and RNA-seq were performed according to He et al (2017). TopHat2 (Kim et al, 2013) and Cuffdiff were used to map the clean reads to the reference genome and calculated expression level, respectively.…”

“…2 B), which are higher than that in any other ones. Besides, sea buckthorn berries are called “king of vitamin C” as the vitamin C content is claimed to be among the richest content in all the fruits and vegetables [ 48 , 51 , 52 ]. These bioactive compounds that the sea buckthorn contains also contribute to its medicinal properties.…”
