“…This notwithstanding, we cannot exclude borderline dopaminergic deficit in some cases. However, our findings corroborate and further extend three previous smaller reports10 19 20 that also failed to find reductions in striatal dopamine transporter tracer binding and indeed dopaminergic drugs are unhelpful for OT. Finally, despite rare reports of cerebellar ataxia associated with OT,7 8 21 22 we could not identify any in our cases.…”

“…Those patients did not have any neurological sign apart from OT and had a normal olfactory function, supporting the idea that they did not have Parkinson's disease (PD) . However, evidence of dopaminergic deficits has not been found in other imaging studies . Moreover, there was no follow‐up on the patients reported by Katzenschlager et al., and it is unknown whether they further developed frank PD.…”

“…The possible role of a striatal dopamine transporter deficit in its genesis, as suggested by single-photon emission computed tomography studies, remains controversial. 4,5 Isolated OT is considered an idiopathic disorder, but in rare cases, OT has been observed in association with Parkinson disease, essential tremor, pontine lesions, cerebellar degeneration restless leg syndrome, or vascular or drug-induced parkinsonism ("OT plus"). 6 Although the age at onset of pure OT varies, in general it manifests earlier than OT plus, with a mean onset of the symptoms in the sixth decade.…”
