“…An impaired responsiveness of pancreatic alpha and beta cells to 1-arginine is one of them (Tayama et al 1972;Seino et al 1974;Andreani et al 1974). However, it is not clear whether the abnormality in the plasma immunoreactive glucagon (IRG) response represents an intrinsic defect in alpha cells or is merely the result of unresponsiveness to 1-arginine only since no findings dealing with plasma IRG response to other stimuli in this disorder have been reported.…”

“…Interestingly, in this latter study, T3 treatment did result in markedly increased levels of hGH secreted into the medium. Since GH stimulation tests in hypothyroid patients usually result in blunted hGH release (32)(33)(34)(35)(36) and since GHRH-mediated hGH release can be (37) increased in hypothyroid patients treated with T3, it appears that thyroid hormone exerts a positive influence on hGH production in man. The available data are consistent with the concept that thyroid hormone control of hGH production occurs at a post-transcriptional step, and possibly at the level of hGH secretion.…”

“…The rest of the plasma was stored in several specimens at -2 0 °C until the time of the assays. Insulin and glucagon con centrations were estimated by radioimmunoassay us ing methods previously reported [17]. Antiserum 30 K. was used for glucagon measurement.…”
