A triptych icon from the 18th century from Borsa Maramure�s County, Romania was investigated by physical-chemical destructive and nondestructive methods: Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction and thermal analysis by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). There were identified: gypsum as ground, wooden stage (lime wood), egg yolk as binder, pigments from the painting layer (red lead, green malachite and white lead), silver foil, iron bolus and animal glue for ground. The scientific investigation of various religious objects in general, this wooden icon in the present case, is a mandatory step in the approach to conservation and restoration of cultural goods.

The impact that geohazards have on cultural heritage requires continuous research in order to assess risks, prevention and conservation. This study has as the main research object, a uniquen monument in terms of its connection with the risk phenomena. It is about a wooden church historical monument from the village of Corbești, Romania, which was destroyed at the beginning of the tenth decade of the last century by a meteorological hazard, later reconstructed on a new site (in Oradea Municipality), and currently there is a risk of being affected by a geological hazard. The study focused on three main directions of research, namely: reconstructing the film of events, analyzing current risks and finding viable methods for future conservation and promotion. The methodology is based on extensive field research and the use of digital technologies. The results obtained confirmed the church's tendency to be affected by the emergence of a new risk phenomenon - landslides. In order to conserve and rebuild in case of need, the monument was digitized and a three-dimensional model of high accuracy was developed. This approach has the advantage of being low-cost, fast, non-invasive and providing large volumes of valuable information in the process of cultural heritage conservation.

One of the most beautiful elements of cultural heritage in Romanian villages is the Transylvanian wooden churches. Unfortunately, these heritage elements have experienced considerable deterioration. This paper presents the results of a project whose main goal was the scientific investigation of the Imperial Gates belonging to the wooden church in Sălis , ca, Cluj County, Romania. To digitally preserve and document the Imperial Gates, a scientific investigation into the wooden support and the painting materials (ground, pigments) were performed using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and x-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy. FTIR spectroscopy provided information about the wooden support, whereas XRF and FTIR methods were used to structurally characterize the painting materials. These structural data were correlated with the artistic, theological, and historical analysis of the religious heritage monument. Starting from the information acquired about the wooden support and the painting materials, the Imperial Gates were three-dimensional (3D) scanned using state-of-the-art laser scanners. The digitization of the Imperial Gates and the interior of the church was performed to maintain the current preservation status and disseminate this information to the public using online instruments.
