Instrumental Activities of Daily Living as a Screening Tool for Cognitive Impairment and Dementia in Elderly Community Dwellers

Abstract: The four IADL score could be incorporated into the screening procedure for dementia in elderly community dwellers.

“…We included 24 elderly individuals (mean age 68.8 ± 4.0 years, range 62-80 years, 17 females, 8-11 years of education). All participants were screened with the Mini Mental State Examination (Folstein et al, 1975), the Lawton's Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (Barberger-Gateau et al, 1992), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (Zigmond and Snaith, 1983).
