Instrument intercomparison in the high-energy mixed field at the CERN-EU reference field (CERF) facility

Abstract: This paper discusses an intercomparison campaign performed in the mixed radiation field at the CERN-EU (CERF) reference field facility. Various instruments were employed: conventional and extended-range rem counters including a novel instrument called LUPIN, a bubble detector using an active counting system (ABC 1260) and two tissue-equivalent proportional counters (TEPCs). The results show that the extended range instruments agree well within their uncertainties and within 1s with the H*(10) FLUKA value. The … Show more

“…A similar experiment was conducted in 2012 by Caresana et al [14] to investigate the performances of conventional and extended-range rem-counters including a novel instrument called LUPIN, two TEPCs and bubble detectors. The results were also compared with the FLUKA reference values [3].…”

“…The LUPIN used during the intercomparison allowed the real-time reading of H * (10) with an integration time of 1 s. Therefore, it was possible to reconstruct and analyse H * (10) variations with 1 s time resolution. The detection capabilities of the LUPIN were demonstrated both in terms of response to high-energy neutrons (Caresana et al 2014b, Dinar et al 2018 and in pulsed fields (Aza et al 2014. The LUPIN was chosen as the reference rem-counter in this intercomparison.…”
