Instrument development of health providers' Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Hospice Care Scale in China

Abstract: Objective: To match the reform of hospice development in China, this study aimed to construct an indigenized health providers' Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Hospice Care (KAPHC) Scale in China with good validity and reliability. “…NAs’ attitudes and related indicators were measured using a scientific scale modified by Shu et al [ 28 ] and Jing et al [ 29 ] that was based on the Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale (FATCOD) [ 30 ] as well as Liu et al’s attitude questionnaire [ 31 ]. In the original study [ 29 ], the scale was proven to have good reliability and validity, with a Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient of 0.768 and a chi-square value of KMO 0.624.…”

“…Participants were informed that participation was voluntary and were required to give informed consent. We adopted the indigenized healthcare provider KAPHC scale, which was scientifically constructed by Shu et al 20 and which proved to have good reliability and validity. The scale comprised four parts: demographic characteristics (11 items), knowledge (15 items), attitudes (24 items with 5 sub-concepts), and practices (2 sub-concepts, confidence of practices and self-reported practices, which each comprised 11 items) in HC.…”

“…Accordingly, we conducted a novel large-scale empirical study to comprehensively evaluate healthcare provider KAPHC based on an indigenized KAPHC scale published by our research team. 20 Then, we performed a linear regression and Pearson’s ( r ) correlation analysis to uncover related influencing factors and their correlations. Ultimately, we sought to discover the problems in delivering HC and develop corresponding solutions rooted in improving healthcare provider KAPHC with targeted training.…”

“…Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Hospice Care Scale (Chinese version) was used to investigate the health providers' knowledge, attitude and self-reported practice status of hospice care. It was scientifically constructed by Shu et al (2021). It includes four subscales: demographic characteristics (12 items), knowledge (15 items), attitudes (24 items with five sub-concepts) and self-reported practices (14 items) in hospice care.…”
