Insomnia research: What have we learned and what else do we need to know?

Abstract

Insomnia research: What have we learned and what else do we need to know? This JSR special issue devoted to insomnia research presents a rich collection of papers addressing a wide range of topics on epidemiology, diagnosis, assessment, aetiology, and treatment. Those papers highlight significant advances made in the past few decades in basic, clinical, and translation research, all of which have greatly contributed to improving our knowledge about insomnia and its treatment. At the same time, those papers underline many research gaps that remain to be elucidated to achieve a better understanding of this condition and its clinical management. This editorial reflects on selected topics that illustrate what we have learned and what we still need to know about insomnia.
