Insights into the Mechanism of the Bi/BiVO4 Composites for Improved Photocatalytic Activity

Abstract: The increasing concentration of residual ciprofloxacin (CIP) can cause potential harm to the environment. Photocatalysis has been regarded as an effective method for the degradation of CIP. Bi/BiVO4 with excellent photocatalytic performance was synthesized partial reduction with NaBH4. The structure, morphology, composition, and optical performance of BiVO4 and Bi/BiVO4 were characterized by a variety of techniques. The results showed that the Bi/BiVO4 exhibits high photocatalytic activity in the degradation o… Show more

“…The weaker PL intensity in the BiVO 4 /MWCNTs nanocomposite was related to lower recombination rate of the photogenerated (e–h) pairs. Thereby, the emission intensity of the BiVO 4 /MWCNTs nanocomposite is lower than that of pure BiVO 4 , which may be due to the existence of MWCNTs inhibiting the recombination of the photogenerated charges …”

“…It is generally agreed that the separation of photogenerated charges is more effective, and its photocatalytic performance is the greater intensity of photocurrent. 35,38,39 Moreover, when the lamp is switched on, the photocurrent of 12.0Bi 2 S 3 /ZC continually rises, showing that the photogenerated electron-hole pairs separate continuously.…”

“…It has structurally stable groups such as benzene ring, cyclopropyl group, carbonyl group, and contains fluorine atoms. It can inhibit bacterial growth and is difficult to spontaneously degrade [ 149 , 150 ]. Due to its high solubility, bacterial resistance, and difficulty in degradation, its long−term bioaccumulation can have genotoxic effects on aquatic organisms and humans [ 151 ].…”
