Insights into the Fluorescence Sensing Mechanism of Scandium‐Based Metal‐Organic Frameworks by Solid‐State NMR Spectroscopy

Abstract: Fluorescent metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) have been evolved as a class of promising materials for sensing application. However, it is still a challenging issue to understand the sensing mechanism of luminescent MOFs interacting with analyte species from molecule level. Herein, fluorescent Sc2(NH2‐BDC)3 crystals are prepared as a probe. The compositional and structural characteristics of the obtained product are systematically characterized. Sc2(NH2‐BDC)3 shows admirable thermal and chemical stability in diff… Show more

“…[23] Ligand-based emission in a Zn dicarboxylate was used for the detection of nitro explosives. [24] Ligand-based emission properties have also been reported for Sc-CPs based on 2,5-furandicarboxylate ligands [25] and amino-terephthalate, [26] respectively. Emission could be initiated in a MIL-53 type structure MOF by incorporation of emitting Eu 3+ ions [27] and in PCN-333(Sc) by incorporation of a BODIPY (boron-dipyrromethene) fluorophore by click reaction.…”

“…Furthermore, its production is concentrated in a few world areas, which do not include those mostly requesting it, such as Europe . Sc-based MOFs have recently emerged as promising materials for carbon oxide sequestration and fluorescence sensing. , However, the limited availability of Sc calls for alternatives. Aluminum and yttrium, both isoelectronic with Sc and more abundant on the Earth’s crust, are seen as suitable substitutes for this element in MOFs.…”
