Insights Into Pulp Biomineralization in Human Teeth

Abstract: IntroductionMineralized pulp (MP) compromises tooth function and its causation is unknown. The hypothesis of this study is that pulp mineralization is associated with pulpal tissue adaptation, increased mineral densities, and decreased permeabilities of tubular dentin and cementum. Methods will include correlative spatial mapping of physicochemical and biochemical characteristics of pulp, and contextualize these properties within the dentin-pulp complex (DPC) to reveal the inherent vunerabilities of pulp.Metho… Show more

“…Hg and other elements present in dental amalgam were investigated in restored teeth, to assess their diffusion and distribution, as Hg has a potentially hazardous effect at high concentrations [ 499 ], Figure 9 c. Similarly, other hazardous elements were also investigated [ 499 , 527 , 536 , 542 , 550 , 551 ]. Chemical analysis using X-ray microprobe and micro X-ray fluorescence is suitable not only for enamel, but is also used for dental calculus [ 544 , 554 , 660 ], dental pulp tissue, and dentine (analysis of Ca, P, Zn) [ 315 ], as well as cementum (Ca and trace metals), which can help in determining the chronology of the exposure to these elements [ 509 ]. In another study, Ca, P, and Sr were analysed in enamel powder and tooth slices that were irradiated using a free electron laser.…”
