“…Oxidative stress has been shown to be one of the main effects of Cd treatment (Romero‐Puertas et al . ). In soybean roots however, a slight but not significant increase in lipid peroxidation used as a marker of membrane damage was observed after 6 h exposure with a subsequent reduction after 72 h until the end of treatment.…”

“…In particular, production of NO in response to Cd has been described and it appears that it is dose‐ and time‐dependent (Romero‐Puertas et al . ).…”

“…H 2 O 2 production after 15 min of Cd-treatment has been reported in Nicotiana tabacum cell suspensions (Olmos et al, 2003) and after 1 h in Oryza sativa (Yeh et al, 2007). Different studies on both whole plant (Di Baccio et al, 2014) or detached leaves (Hsu and Kao, 2007;Iannone et al, 2010) level, demonstrate that Cd challenge elicits reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and H 2 O 2 accumulation in cell wall, plasmamembrane, tonoplast, chloroplasts and mitochondria (Zhang et al, 2009;Romero-Puertas et al, 2012). Moreover, it has also been reported that guard cells represent an important gate for Cd entry in leaves and that their cell wall functions as a primary site of Cd accumulation and of H 2 O 2 production (Olmos et al, 2003;Hsu and Kao, 2007;Rodríguez-Serrano et al, 2009).…”

“…It has been well documented that Cd stress will induce ROS production MDA accumulation (Romero-Puertas et al, 2012; Sandalio et al, 2012). In the present study, the increase of O2- and H 2 O 2 production in apple rootstocks after Cd exposure reflected the oxidative stress induced by Cd.…”
