Inside Cover: A New Class of Amphiphiles Bearing Rigid Hydrophobic Groups for Solubilization and Stabilization of Membrane Proteins (Chem. Eur. J. 31/2012)

Abstract: A class of structurally new amphiphile based on steroidal lipophilic groups have been prepared by P. S. Chae et al. on The results show that the new amphiphiles confer enhanced stability to a variety of membrane proteins in solution relative to popular conventional detergent dodecylmaltoside (DDM). The potential of the new amphiphiles as tools for solubilization, isolation, and stabilization is evident from their success with a variety of membrane proteins.
